The OTC Asia Univesity R&D Challenge is a one-day event from 0830-1530 hours on Friday, 23 March 2018, where universities will work with industry professionals to ideate solutions for the following challenge statement:

How can we make future offshore development more cost competitive in the global energy market?
Although considered successful; the complexity, scale, and costs of developing offshore reservoirs are taxing industry capabilities and causing operators and contractors alike serious financial duress in the current market. The same is also true of offshore wave, wind and solar projects. Overcoming these challenges will require innovation, new collaboration strategies and accelerating research in key areas. The development of enabling technologies will be a critical factor in unlocking energy resources from deeper waters, more difficult reservoirs and remote areas.

Join universities and industry professionals in developing innovative ideas to answer this challenge question. Themes of possible consideration include:

  • Low cost pipelines and tiebacks
  • Offshore renewable energy production
  • Remote offshore power supply
  • Remote monitoring
  • Debunking decommissioning
  • Seismic reservoir installation
  • Manufacturing technology
  • Big data / mchine learning / AI
  • Health, safety & environment
  • High-pressure and high-temperature equipment
  • Innovative floating platforms and riser solutions

Participants will utilise the online FutureLab Exchange (FLEX) platform to boradcast challenges which would benefit from a collaborative approach, and then visually ideate, rapidly collect solutions and capture prototype plans in a structured manner.

Winning solutions will be awarded a cash prize to further research and development (terms and conditions apply)
